News Brief: Hospital Officially Appeals Ambulatory Surgical Center Decision

Dec. 16, 2004- The Roy L. Schneider Hospital has notified Darlene Carty, V.I. Health commissioner, that it will appeal her decision approving the proposed St. Thomas ambulatory surgical center, according to press materials received Thursday evening by the Source.
Carty announced her decision to issue a Certificate of Need to the proposed center late in November. (See "Carty Approves Ambulatory Surgical Center").
In a letter hand-delivered to Carty today, Schneider Hospital Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel Amos W. Carty Jr. repeated the hospital's request for a copy of the Health commissioner's "Rules and Regulations" used to justify the decision and copies of the minutes of the Health Department's ad hoc committee. He first made this request several weeks ago. (See "Hospital Will Appeal Commissioner's Decision on Surgical Center").
