VI RC&D Grant Resource Library to be Unveiled at UVI

Nov. 30, 2004– The V. I. Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc. (VI RC&D) is pleased to announce the donation of our Grant Resource Library to the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Library System. The official Library unveiling will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 3rd at the UVI St. Croix Campus. Interested government and non-governmental organization representatives, as well as members of the general public, are encouraged to attend and browse through the Library materials.
One of VI RC&D’s priority areas is community development. For the past 10 years, VI RC&D has been the territory’s leading organization in grantsmanship training through its annual workshops on St. Croix and St. Thomas. In order to improve public access to grant-writing reference materials, the Council is donating its Grant Resource Library materials to UVI’s St. Croix and St. Thomas Libraries, as well as the St. John Community Foundation, Inc., to expand Library access hours to weekday evenings and weekends.
The VI RC&D Grant Resource Library consists of current and previous years’ directories, guidebooks and reference books such as the Foundation Yearbook, Foundation Directory and National Directory of Corporate Giving, as well as the Foundation Center Database CD-ROM. The collection will be housed together at the UVI Libraries and will be indexed in the Libraries' Online catalog. UVI will also provide librarian assistance for persons utilizing Grant Resource Library materials.
'For the past fourteen years, the VI RC&D Council has endeavored to build capacity in our community to solve our own problems,' said May Cornwall, Project Manager. 'I particularly encourage all non-profits to use this resource library to support their missions and to seek opportunities for partnerships through a community network of grant writers.'
UVI has been represented in the membership and the Board of VI RC&D since the Council’s incorporation in 1991. Our continued partnership has infused over $200,000.00 into the community through our many successful projects. Current joint projects include the Youth Agricultural Education project, the UVI Sports & Fitness Center Urban Forestry Beautification project, and planning for the 9th Virgin Islands Nonpoint (NPS) Source Pollution Conference. Prior year projects included the first Natural Resources and Agriculture Workshop, the UVI Royal Palm Urban Management project, Urban Forestry Publications donated to the UVI Libraries on both campuses, Backyard Composting, Wellhead Protection Area Management Standards, Magens Bay Tree Restoration, Erosion & Sediment Control Training, previous V.I. NPS Conferences, Indoor Air Quality Workshops and VI Farm-A-Syst / Home-A-Syst Program.
