Air Force Airman Roger L. Fleming Jr./St. John
Nov. 30, 2004 – (Army & Air Force Hometown News) Air Force Airman Roger L. Fleming Jr. has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Roger L. Fleming Sr. of St. John.
Air Force Airman Wade E. McFarlande/St. Croix
Nov. 24, 2004 – (Army & Air Force Hometown News) Air Force Airman Wade E. McFarlande has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

McFarlande is the son of Aretha McFarlande of Mount Pleasant, Christiansted, Virgin Islands.

Army National Guard Pvt. Dwayne A. Allen/St. Thomas
Nov. 23, 2004 – (Army & Air Force Hometown News) Army National Guard Pvt. Dwayne A. Allen has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Patricia Allen of St. Thomas.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Army Pvt. Ania T. Phillip/St. Croix
Nov. 23, 2004 – (Army & Air Force Hometown News) Army Pvt. Ania T. Phillip has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Phillip is the daughter of Catherine Phillip of Kingshill, St. Croix, and sister of Stacey Phillip of McClean Blvd., Baltimore, Md.
She is a 2003 graduate of Central High School, St. Croix.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Coast Guard Seaman Ruben Nieves/St. Croix
Nov. 23, 2004 (Fleet Hometown News Center)–Coast Guard Seaman Ruben Nieves, son of Ana M.and Reuben Nieves of Christiansted, V. I., recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N. J.
During the eight-week training program, Nieves completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness.
Nieves and other recruits also received instruction on the Coast Guard's core values — honor, respect and devotion to duty — and how to apply them in their military performance and personal conduct. Nieves will join 36, 000 other men and women who comprise Coast Guard's force.
Men and women train together from the first day in the Coast Guard just as they do aboard ships and shore units throughout the world. To reinforce the team concept, Nieves, and other recruits were trained in preventing sexual harassment, drug and alcohol awareness, civil rights training, and the basics of the work-life balance, as well as total quality management.
Seaman Joshua Carlson / St. Croix
Nov. 18, 2004 (Fleet Hometown News) – Navy Seaman Joshua L. Carlson, son of Sandra L. King of Vermillion, S.D., and Gary L. Carlson of Christiansted, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill., with honors and was promoted to his current rank.
During the eight-week program, Carlson completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction of naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise
gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly "Navy" flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor in today's U.S. Navy.
Carlson is a 2001 graduate of Viborg Public High School of Viborg, S.D.
Navy Officer Jacklyn Todman / St. Thomas
Nov. 18, 2004 (Fleet News) – Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jacklyn P. Todman, daughter of Almica A. Todman of St. Thomas, recently received the Navy 2004 Safety Excellence Award on behalf of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 53 (VR-53), homebased at Naval Air Facility Washington, Andrews Air Force Base, Md.
Todman took part in a ceremony at the Pentagon where Secretary of the Navy Gordon R. England presented the award recognizing the Navy Reserve squadron with the best risk management program and safety record.
Todman's unit, nicknamed Capital Express, completed more than 10 years and 40,000 flight hours without a single significant mishap. In 2003, VR-53 flew 3,768 flight hours and transported more than 7 million pounds of cargo and 5,500 people. The squadron also achieved 100 percent mission-completion rate in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Todman joined the Navy in April 1985.
Shakeem Petersen / St. Thomas
Nov. 18, 2004 (Fleet News) – Civilian Shakeem J. Petersen, son of Diana and Wilbur Petersen of St. Thomas, recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District Miami, Sunrise, Fla.
Petersen will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
Sheldon A. Augustine / St. Thomas
Nov. 18, 2004 (Fleet News) – Civilian Sheldon A. Augustine, son of Andrew Augustine of St. Thomas, recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District Miami, Sunrise, Fla.

Airman Emmanuel Santillan / St. Croix
Nov. 16, 2004 (Army & Air Force News) – Air Force Airman 1st Class Emmanuel Santillan. a 2004 graduate of Central High School, Christiansted, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
He is the son of Carmen Belardo of Christiansted.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Navy Seaman Apprentice Tyrone Hanley / St. Thomas
Nov. 16, 2004 (Fleet News) – Navy Seaman Apprentice Tyrone A. Hanley, son of Eden D. and Kipling A. Hanley of St. Thomas, was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Hanley, a 2004 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle. Training included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Nov. 16, 2004 (Fleet News)–Navy Seaman Elisa Andreuwoods, daughter of Elizabeth Sonson of Cruz Bay, St. John, and Alfredo A. Andreu of Norfolk, Va., was recently promoted to her current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Army Reserve Pfc. Lucien Wallace / St. Thomas
Nov. 4, 2004 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Reserve Pfc. Lucien A. Wallace has graduated from the automated logistical specialist advanced individual training course at the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and School, Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.
Wallace is the son of Lucien A. Wallace of Griffin, Ga., and Denise M. Wallace of St. Thomas.
The course is designed to train soldiers to establish and maintain stock records and other documents such as inventory, materiel control, accounting and support reports, automated and manual accounting records; perform stock record/ warehouse functions pertaining to receipt, storage, distribution and issue and maintain equipment records and parts; review and verify bills of lading, contracts, and purchase orders; repair and construct shipping crates for equipment and supplies, and perform prescribed loads and shop stock lists in manual and automated supply applications.
Army Sgt. Patrick Donovan / St. Thomas
Nov. 4, 2004 (Army and Air Force News) – Army Sgt. Patrick E. Donovan, son of Irad and Mera Donovan of St. Thomas, has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to engage in military operations involving U.S. and coalition forces. Operation objectives include liberating the Iraqi people, preserving Iraq as a unified state, keeping its territorial integrity intact, and helping the Iraqi people begin the process of economic and political reconstruction. Active duty, reserve, and National Guard members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces are participating in the operation.
Donovan, a food service specialist, is regularly assigned to one of the various camps and units (infantry, aviation, armor, artillery, engineer, command support, etc.) of the 2nd Infantry Division Eighth U.S. Army, based in South Korea. U.S. Army Pfc. Delisha Rogers / St. Croix
Nov. 3, 2004 (e-mail submission) – Private First Class (E-3) Delisha Rogers, 18, of 19 Estate Concordia, St. Croix, graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., on Oct. 21, 2004.
The St. Croix Educational Complex 2004 graduate's family includes mother, Irose Rogers; father, Clifford Rogers; brothers, Clifford Jr., Deon, Vincent, and Devon Rogers; sister, Desaree Rogers; and grandparents, Pearl and John Duberry.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
"Basic training was a great experience," Pfc. Rogers said in an e-mail; she "learned teamwork and made tight friendship with a lot of strangers who grew to be family during the course."
She is now in advance individual training in Ft. Gordon, Ga., where she is studying computers for her job as computer information analysis.

Nov. 4, 2004 (Fleet Hometown News Center) – Navy Seaman Apprentice Rory R. Antoine, son of Bernadette A. and Arnold B. Clarke of St. Thomas, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
