Body of 26-year-old Woman Found on UVI Golf Course

Oct. 25, 2004 – Police and officials at the University of the Virgin Islands are investigating the death of a young woman found floating in a pond adjacent to the university golf course Monday morning.
Authorities said in the afternoon that a preliminary investigation did not indicate foul play.
UVI spokeswoman Patrice Johnson said she became aware that something was wrong around 11 a.m. Monday when she received a call at her office. "I was alerted that there was a body found in one of the ponds at the UVI golf course," she said. "When I arrived on the scene police had already arrived."
UVI administrators, Emergency Medical Technicians and the Fire Service were also at the scene Monday morning, according to Johnson.
Police have identified the woman as 26-year-old Lamecha Schulterbrandt.
Sgt. Thomas Hannah, Police spokesman, said the deceased was found fully clothed, floating face down in the pond.
"They're still investigating," Hannah said. "They're looking into what are the possible reasons for her being there."
The body was taken to the Roy L. Schneider Hospital where an autopsy is being scheduled.
Johnson said the UVI community is anxiously awaiting the results of that medical examination. "We are concerned as a UVI community about the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff."
