Mark H. Oliver Given Distinguished Service Award

Oct. 17, 2004 – Mark H. Oliver, of St. Croix, received The National Association of Hispanic Federal Executives' 2004 Distinguished Public Service Award on Oct. 13, at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., held at the Watergate Hotel.
During the formal luncheon program, Oliver was one of two individuals who received the outstanding service award. To put it into perspective, there are approximately 2.7 million federal civil employees, according to press materials.
The award was in recognition of his outstanding leadership and consummate professionalism in representing the U.S. Department of the Interior in its sponsorship of the Hispanic Federal Executives Summit VI held April 14-16, 2004, in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Oliver, through his efforts, insured the success of Summit VI, the release said.
"Mr. Oliver, by his leadership and professionalism brought great credit to the Department, the Federal community, and himself. He is a true role model for all federal executives and the U.S. Virgin Islands," the release said.
The mission of the NAHFE is to enhance the excellence and professionalism of the federal workforce while assuring the fair and equitable delivery of services to the Hispanic American community in housing, justice, economic development, health and employment opportunities.
Oliver has been with the U.S. Department of the Interior since 1984. He served on the U.S. Department of the Interior's first Diversity Council as vice chair and then interim chair. In 1999, then President Bill Clinton awarded Oliver the U.S. Department of the Interior's Unsung Heroes Award for his long hours and time he worked unselfishly and without any compensation. Presently, Mr. Oliver is the Executive Management Executive Officer for the U.S. Department of the Interior and advises the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Business Management and Wildland Fires on opportunities to advance the Department's mission with oversight in the areas of budget, business management, small and disadvantaged business utilization, acquisition, property and financial management.
The son of the late Ena Marie Oliver and Mr. Roy H. Oliver of Fredriksted, St. Croix, Mark Oliver is a graduate of St. Croix Central High School and holds a bachelors degree in political science from Morgan State University, located in Baltimore, Md., with a masters of arts in public administration from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C.
