11 Nominated to Historic Preservation Commission

Aug. 20, 2004 – Gov. Charles W. Turnbull has sent the Legislature his nominations of 11 persons to serve on the 13-member Historic Preservation Commission.
The commission functions as separate committees for each district, with the Planning and Natural Resources commissioner serving, ex officio, as secretary of each.
For the St. Croix committee, the nominees are:
– Rupert N. Pelle, a Water and Power Authority civil engineer and current member.
– Norma D. Glenn, manager of Victoria House Estate and current member.
– Carmen Gonzalez, outreach service coordinator and current member.
– Gerville Rene Larsen, architect, to replace Jose Martinez, whose term has expired.
– Wayne E. "Bully" Petersen, artist, photographer, musician and program director for Our Town Frederiksted, to replace Harold Thompson, who died.
For the St. Thomas-St. John committee, the nominees are:
– Joyce A. Caron, government retiree and current member.
– Chaneel Callwood-Daniels, architect and current member.
– Priscilla Stridiron, University of the Virgin Islands instructor and businesswoman, to replace Carlito Kean, whose term has expired.
– Louise O. Petersen, executive director of the Methodist Training and Outreach Center, to replace Philip Sturm, whose term has expired..
– Robert G. Moron, interim territorial archivist and retired chief records manager for the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums, to replace Mabel Maduro, whose term has expired.
– Karen L. Samuel, artist, art educator and cultural preservationist, current St. John member.
Commission members serve two-year terms. However, members whose terms have expired continue to serve until their successors are sworn in. At least one member must live on St. John and at least one must live in Frederiksted.
