Delegate Participates in Cybersecurity Crisis Simulation

Washington, DC – February 24, 2004) – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen was one of 14 members of Congress who participated today in a crisis simulation exercise held at the National Defense University and organized by the Department of Defense.
Named "Dark Portal," the exercise allowed Members and representatives of federal agencies to examine responses to a credible threat through physical or cyber-attack against critical infrastructure and key assets of the United States.
"We were actually able to see what it would be like to work together as a threat was made that had to be responded to right away," said Delegate Christensen. "It was interesting to see how all the pieces of the defense strategy would come together."
Christensen was invited to participate as a member of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security's Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Science and Research and Development.
"It is important to know just how federal, state and local agencies will cooperate during a crisis," said Christensen. "The threats to national security are complex and it is important to prepare for many different types of events."
