VELAZQUEZ IS NEW ST. CROIX DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF

March 31, 2003 – Herminio Velazquez was recently named the Police Department's deputy chief for St. Croix, filling the post left vacant when former Deputy Chief Angel Santos retired.
Velazquez, 43, joined the Police Department in 1983. Named the best overall recruit in his class, he rose through the department, achieving the rank of lieutenant in 1996. In January 2000 he was appointed director of the department's Internal Affairs Bureau, with responsibility for overseeing investigations of alleged misconduct on the part of police officers.
A graduate of St. Croix Central High School, Velazquez holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Miami. He also graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Caribbean Police School in 1986. He is married to Venetia Velazquez and is the father five children and two stepchildren.
