REGULATIONS TO BE POSTED AT GARBAGE SITES

Sept. 26, 2002 – Public Works Commissioner Wayne Callwood said his department is posting signs at St. Croix garbage dumpsters to notify residents what types of solid waste are acceptable at the sites.
The signs state that no dumping of industrial or business waste is allowed at the garbage bins. Also forbidden are construction materials, large household appliances, hazardous materials, animals, oil, fuel, other flammables, fencing materials, furniture, metals, and wood or brush over 24 inches.
Debris that cannot be dumped at the bins is accepted at the landfill, Callwood said.
"The notice also states that violators will be prosecuted and may be fined up to $1,000," he said, adding that litter enforcement officers will be patrolling the bin sites, issuing citations to anyone violating the dumping laws.
