READING IS FUNDAMENTAL AT LEW MUCKLE SCHOOL

Sept. 25, 2002 – Students at Lew Muckle Elementary School are the proud recipients of more than 100 hardcover books and a wooden bookshelf to permanently house the books, according to principal Deborah Rodgers.
The gift is the result of a generous donation to Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), Inc. from the Coca-Cola Company. Last year, the company expressed its desire to develop a program with RIF to promote students' literacy across the country, and the RIF/Coca-Cola Partnership was started.
Word of the donation was received by Vivian Nielsen, the intermediate reading teacher at Lew Muckle Elementary, said a release from the V.I. Education Department. Partnership project manager Sara Horwitz said that the St. Croix school was chosen based on the percentage of at-risk students between the ages of 6 and 11, successful book distributions and motivational activities, as well as the school's responsible reporting of school data.
