ARTISTS IN AFFINITY OPEN SHOW

Jan. 25, 2002 — A new artistic forum on the St. Croix visual-arts scene opens Friday night at the Walsh Metal Gallery.
"A Celebration of Diversity: In the Pursuit of Fine Art" was created for the purpose of celebrating the Virgin Islands' cultural and stylistic diversity through works of art demonstrating inventiveness, originality and genuine personal expression, according to Gerville Larsen, a member of Artists in Affinity.
The annual visual arts event will premiere on Friday, Jan. 25, with a first exhibition displaying the creative undertakings of 12 local artists. The artist, 10 from St. Croix and two from St. John, blend two-dimensional art media from oil paintings, acrylics, pastels, mixed media on paper, along with three dimensional works of wood and metal sculptures, mobiles and installations. Lectures and presentations by individual artists are scheduled for Saturday, Feb.9, at 10 a.m. Artist Featured include Chouquette Giraud, Luca Gasperi, Jeri
Hillis, Gerville Larsen, Larry Lipsky, Cindy Male, Kat Pierre, Maud Pierre-Charles, Robin Clair Pitts, Catherine Roche, Mike Walsh and Steven Walsh.
The opening reception is Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The closing date is Feb. 18.
Guest Presenters include Cindy Male, Roger Summerhayes and Robert Vaughn.
