WAPA REPAIRS WILL CAUSE SOME OUTAGES

Jan. 18, 2002 – Parts of St. Thomas will be intermittently without power from 11 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday while the Water and Power Authority replaces parts that were responsible for recent power outages.
WAPA expects power to be on and off in town and parts of the western, central and north side of the island, while failing insulators and switches are replaced.
A release from the authority said the repairs "will necessitate shutting down the 15kv buss feeding town, the central portion and the north and west side of St. Thomas. However, the feeders will be tied in the field to the out lying 34kv substations."
It went on to say the interruptions will be minimal and no major outages are expected.
Earlier in the month the island was plagued with lengthy outages due to aging equipment.
