ANOTHER 'ALTERNATIVE' WITH ACCENTS OF SPAIN

Jan. 17, 2002 – As foretold two weeks ago, the visiting flamenco duo of Teye and Belen Oliva Bermudez will be back for another "Friday Night Alternative" this weekend at American Yacht Harbor.
Last week's memorable moments on the Marlin Deck outside of The Color of Joy gallery and boutique included not only music but "a little magic," according to organizer Corinne Van Rensselaer. That was in the persons of another husband-and-wife duo, "Dr. Magic" and "Dr. Cha-Cha," who are St. John liveaboards.
Dr. Magic and Jules Phillips also added some sax appeal to the evening. "They're both outstanding musicians," Van Rensselaer said.
House musician "Sunshine" Sally Smith on keyboard and vocals and "Mr. B." on drums once again will be anchoring the entertainment Friday. In the gallery, Van Rensselaer will be displaying some "Mostly Music Art" drawings of the flamenco performers that St. Thomas artist Madeleine I.E. Meehan did two weeks ago during their first FNA appearance.
"We have their CD's for sale here, too," Van Rensselaer says.
As usual, there will be complimentary wine, cheese and crackers, with Premier Wines as sponsor this week, and a video showing for youngsters. Ongoing is January's raffle of a framed watercolor print of hibiscus blooms, and still available are "Friday Night Alternative" T-shirts in white on black or black on white.
FNA hours are 6 to 8 p.m. The venue is in Red Hook just a few minutes' walk from the ferry dock, making it an easy stop for folks heading from St. Thomas to St. John for the night.
