LIBURD TO HOLD MEETING ON NEW PARK TAXI RULES

Oct. 25, 2001 – St. John's taxi drivers and V.I. National Park officials will have a chance to discuss the park's new concession management plan at a meeting on Thursday. It begins at 7 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cruz Bay.
Sen. Almando "Rocky" Liburd said he called the meeting to help taxi drivers understand the changes that will soon take place with their way of doing business within the park.
"I want it to be informational," he said.
Starting Jan. 1, 2002, the concession management plan calls for all taxi drivers who take people on tours of the park to have permits. However, taxi drivers taking people point to point, from Cruz Bay to Trunk Bay, for example, do not need a permit.
Details of the commercial services plan are available at www.nps.gov, at the park's Visitor's Center in Cruz Bay and at the Elaine I. Sprauve Library. A summary of the plan is available also on the Source at An Overview of the Commercial Services Plan".
