$4.7M IN CONTRACTS APPROVED BY WAPA

A number of contracts totaling nearly $4.7 million were approved by the V.I. Water and Power Authority governing board at its Thursday meeting.
St. Croix units 16 and 20 will get major overhauls by General Electric, including a high-tech upgrade for No. 16 and stack modification for No. 20. The total cost will be $3.3 million.
Asplundh Tree Experts was awarded a $490,880 contract to trim trees and clear the right of way for feeders for one year.
Fortress Electric will pull cables for underground feeder projects on St. Croix and St. Thomas at a cost of $891,545. And legislation is still pending on turning over the responsibility for streetlights to WAPA from the Department of Public Works.
