BLACK LAWYERS GROUP CONVENES AT REEF

The Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA) will hold its 20th Anniversary Conference on Wednesday through Sunday at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef Beach Resort. Lawyers in sports, film, music, television and new media will be on hand.
"This years BESLA conference promises to be the biggest and best ever and is designed to keep participants on the cutting edge of new developments in the sports and entertainment industries," said chairman C. Lamont Smith (All Pro Sports Entertainment).
This year's theme, "Representing Clients in an E-Commerce Economy," promises to prepare entertainment attorneys for big changes in technology and new media. Panel discussions will include "Network Deals and Dealmaking," "Debating the Napster Case" and "Diversity and Discrimination in the Entertainment Industry."
BESLA's primary objective is to serve as an educational, advocacy and networking platform for minority professionals in the sports and entertainment industries. "We are committed to providing our members access to information necessary to ensure their success," says BESLA's conference co-chair, Joi Rideout.
Among those attending the conference will be top executives and counsel at such companies as Fox Sports Television, Elektra Entertainment Group, MTV, and ABC Entertainment. Conference sponsors include MTV Networks, Time Warner, Inc., Wittnauer and Cendant Corporation, as well as ASCAP, Arista Records, The Denver Broncos Football Club, Atlanta Braves, Prudential, Tangueray, Def Jam Records, Vanguard Music, Anheuser-Busch, Soulprpse.com, Upscale Magazine, Courvoisier and American Airlines.
