The Virgin Islands Police Department will receive $24,648 from the U.S. Department of Justice to enforce the Underage Drinking Laws Program in the territory, according to a release from Congressional Delegate Donna Christian- Chritiansen.
The Office of Justice Programs at the Justice department hopes to reduce underage drinking by expanding the number of communities taking a comprehensive approach to the problem through increased law enforcement activity regarding the sale of alcohol to minors.
The funding will also help to implement a compliance check program to increase enforcement, develop and deliver public education programs for V.I. schools and youth programs, and increase community awareness efforts through media resources.
