CASTLE BURKE HOUSING GETS $750,000

The federal government has pitched in nearly $1 million for construction of homes at Castle Burke.
On Tuesday, Congresswoman Donna Christian Christensen said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Housing Service awarded an additional $750,000 for the continued development of the Castle Burke subdivision on St. Croix. The money will aid in the completion of the first phase of 25 units at the subdivision in excess of the normal allocation for rural development housing loans in the Virgin Islands.
"Last summer, Rural Development in Florida asked our assistance in obtaining these extra funds for Castle Burke and we took the matter to the Undersecretary's Office," Christensen said. "This is very good news for us as we continue to find new ways to subsidize the many projects and programs in the community."
Christensen thanked Housing, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Ira Hobson for his work in bringing the Castle Burke development to fruition, as well as Rural Development Undersecretary Jill Long Thompson for increasing the flow of USDA dollars to the territory. Christensen said.
