VANDALS FORCE SCHOOL’S CLOSURE

Classes at Evelyn Williams Elementary School were canceled Monday after school employees discovered ransacked classrooms.
Because of the widespread damage, school administrator Carlos McGregor was on the radio at 8:30 a.m. advising parents to pick up their children.
Over the weekend unidentified vandals broke into 12 kindergarten-through-third-grade classrooms and destroyed supplies, ransacked desks and threw the contents about. One of the vandals defecated in a classroom.
"We can’t have education taking place today," McGregor said on WSTX radio.
Police were on their way to the school early Monday to investigate the vandalism. School officials will look into ways to prevent future break-ins, McGregor said. He urged parents to "come in and lend a hand in cleaning up."
"You can’t believe it happened," McGregor said. "It’s demoralizing."
