DELEGATE MEETS PRESIDENT ON ISSUES FOR 2000

Delegate Donna M. Christian-Christensen returned to the territory Tuesday after a brief trip to Washington for the annual Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) meeting at the White House.
Christensen, one of about 15 attending members of the CBC and chair of the Caucus' Health Braintrust, primarily discussed national health care policy for people of color with President Bill Clinton, but also addressed several issues of importance to the Virgin Islands.
"It was a very good meeting. I had an opportunity to thank the president for his support of our two major initiatives this year – rum and jewelry, and asked for his support in lifting the current cap on Medicaid, expanding SSI benefits to the Territory, and reauthorizing general assistance funding for the Department of Education," Christensen said.
The Delegate will work with administration officials next year on future initiatives for the Territory.
