TWO SCHOOLS STILL CLOSED

Hurricane Lenny is continuing to wreak havoc on public schools in St. Croix. The Alternative Education School canceled classes, the result of ongoing electrical problems, and at the Elena Christian Junior High School structural deficiencies on one wing forced the closing of that school until later this week.
Education Commissioner Ruby Simmonds said she was made aware of the latest problems at the junior high school on Sunday night and ordered the campus shut down until the problems are rectified.
"We are looking at the possibility of double sessions for students of the Christian Junior High School," Simmonds said.
A meeting between school administrators and staff members is set for today. Parents of students attending Elena Christian will be briefed on the rationale for double sessions at a meeting set for this evening.
The Pearl B. Larsen and Evelyn Williams schools resumed sessions
today following a week of hurricane-related work on the electrical systems.
