UVI RECEIVES FEDERAL GRANT MONEY

An unprecedented $375,521 in federal grant money has been received by the University of the Virgin Islands Agricultural Experimentation Station. The grant was awarded at the spring meeting of the Caribbean Basin Administrative Group in Washington, D.C.
Research that addresses the unique problems encountered in tropical agriculture is subject of the competitive grant program.
"UVI received more new money than Puerto Rico," said AES State Director Dr. James Rakocy. "In fact, 75 percent of AES proposals were funded, compared to 42.8 percent for Puerto Rico and 41.1 percent for Florida."
The new grants will fund several projects including research in tropical forage seed production and crop management in hot peppers.
