POLICEMAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING GIRLFRIEND

Feb. 5, 2003 – A police officer on St. Croix was arrested for domestic violence early Tuesday morning, according to Police Chief Novelle Frances.
Officer Juan Cruz, 40, was charged with aggravated assault and battery after he allegedly got into an altercation with his girlfriend at about 9 p.m. Monday, Francis said.
The woman sustained minor injuries to her finger and forehead. Francis said it was his belief that she did not require hospitalization, but a victim advocate was notified of the incident.
Cruz, who has been with the Police Department for 12 years, posted $1,000 bail and was released. Francis said he has been suspended without pay pending court disposition of the matter.
