McDonald's in Orange Grove Still Closed For Health Code Violations

The McDonald’s restaurant in Orange Grove remained closed Wednesday following a V.I. Health Department inspection to correct food code violations.
After receiving several complaints, the department inspected the restaurant late Monday, according to a Health Department statement. The inspector found violations of the health code and ordered the restaurant closed.
“Once an establishment is closed, a follow-up inspection is agreed upon with the Department, and the establishment is allowed to reopen once compliance is met,” Health Commissioner Julia Sheen said in the department’s statement. That follow-up inspection was conducted Wednesday, but the restaurant did not meet compliance and remained closed. A third inspection has been scheduled, and the restaurant can possibly reopen as early as Thursday, Sheen said.
The nature of the violation or violations was not mentioned in the announcement.
Environmental Health Division staff routinely inspects restaurants as part of the department’s mission to protect the public’s health. Sheen said that depending on the severity of the violations, businesses can be cited or shut down for violations that can range from unsanitary conditions and a lack of refrigeration for frozen goods to employees working without a food worker’s permit from the Health Department.
