WHO TOOK AWARDS IN CLASSICAL COMPETITION

April 9, 2001 – Here are the winners of the 12th annual Arts Alive/Innovative Telephone Classical Music Competition. The final round of judging for students from throughout the territory was Sunday at Island Center on St. Croix.
Junior Division
Piano – First place: Christina Zayas. Merit awards: Tevon Chumney, Ayanna Warner, Jelani Rollins.
Instrumental – Merit award: Nichelle Warrican (violin).
Vocal – Second place: Yasmin Sevilla Mannon.
Duo – First place: Chantel Christopher and Vanessa Tamar (vocal duo).
Intermediate Division
Piano – First place: Keshawn Benjamin. Second place: Nicole Moore. Third place (3-way tie): Chaye Benjamin, Celia Nurse, Soyika Ayanna Richardson. Fourth place (tie): Nathan Sell, Darnell Henry. Special awards: Christal Richardson, Evan Jerome. Merit awards: Derique Williams, Ajaji Monell.
Instrumental – First place: Keridan Williams (steelpan). Second place: Jesse Atwell (electric bass guitar)
Vocal – Merit awards (tie): Cheleise Warrican, Odaelys Walwyn.
Advanced Division
Piano – Merit awards: Kathy Bellot, Kendall Yorke.
Instrumental – First place: Deshawn Hendrickson (alto saxophone). Merit awards: Crew Smith (flute), Kirk Thomas (trumpet)
Vocal – Second place (tie): Daniella Greenaway, Latoya Lewis. Third place (tie): Melita Etienne, Paul Lawrence.
Duo – First place: Karabo Molyneaux and Nicole Thomas (vocal duo).
The panel of three judges apportioned a total of $5,000 in prize money among the winners. The annual competition is presented by Arts Alive and sponsored by Innovative Telephone.
