KENNEDY, RANGEL FEATURED AT FUND-RAISER

Reps. Patrick J. Kennedy and Charles B. Rangel will be the lure to reel in the big fish at a fund-raiser Feb. 28 in St. Thomas to benefit the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Invitations list the cost of entry at $1,000 for a sponsor and $5,000 for a host. And interestingly, one of the people doing the inviting is a Republican.

SEAHORSES TAKE UP RESIDENCY IN LAGOON

Thanks to an experiment conducted by Coral World, 140 seahorses have a new home in the Mangrove Lagoon at Long Point on the east end of St. Thomas.

BLACKHALL HEADS REPUBLICAN BRANCH HERE

The St. Thomas-St. John branch of the Republican Party has elected George Blackhall as its president and three other new officers for the coming year.

OFFICER WILLIAMS TO REMAIN IN JAIL

Ian Williams Jr., 27, the police officer charged with tampering with a victim-witness and third-degree assault, will be detained until trial.

With 1,100 of American Airlines’ flights canceled Thursday and more scuttled Friday, St. Thomas hoteliers have lost hope of redeeming their holiday weekend bookings. People are canceling because they can't get here. And while others have been forced to stay, many won't be happy if they can't get out soon, one hotelier said.
