A man dumping garbage at the Mon Bijou trash transfer station very early Wednesday was confronted by two men who attempted to rob him, and foiled the robbery after trading shots with the assailants.
According to the V.I. Police Department, officers were dispatched at roughly 12:15 a.m. to the Mon Bijou site in response to a report of an attempted robbery.
Officers met with the complainant, whose name was not released by police. He told them he had arrived at the site just before midnight. While placing his refuse into the dumpster, two masked men, one tall and the other short, both dressed entirely in black clothing, emerged from the bushes at the southwestern section of the dumpsite.
The taller of the two suspects pointed a firearm at the complainant and said, “Pass it up," to which the victim said, “What?” according to police.
The suspect brandishing the gun then discharged a shot at the victim but missed. The victim then drew his licensed firearm and fired a single shot at the two suspects and missed. The suspects ran out of the site, headed south towards the Alfredo Andrews Elementary School.
The victim was unharmed and police continue to investigate the matter.
