St. John, get ready to dance on April 19 in Cruz Bay. Quelbe Resurrection will team up with the St. John Recovery Choir for the “One Love” spring concert. Tents will be erected in the park in case of rain.
A concert previously scheduled for Coral Bay has been cancelled for now.
Quelbe Resurrection has generated a loyal following by performing traditional Quelbe songs on modern instruments and also featuring music from other genres including R&B, bossa nova, ballads, calypso, jazz, and pop. “You go out to hear reggae and soca, and usually that’s it,” said Carl Powell, one of the band’s founders. “But when you go to hear Quelbe Resurrection, you get a kallaloo.”
The concert and dance party, which runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m., will include performances by The Echo People, Bamboula dancer Raven Phillips, Ocama Youth Choir, the Senior Singalong, and the St. John Recovery Choir. Local food and beverages will be available thanks to Chef Maxine and Ras Feba, Roti King, and Our Market Smoothies.

“The Echo People will kick off the evening with their amazing energy, and the choirs will sing,” said Kristen Carmichael-Bowers, director of Sing St. John. “Then Quelbe Resurrection Band will treat us to a dance party for the last half — so wear your dancing shoes!”
The event is free. Sing St. John is jointly supported by a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C., a federal agency.
“It is thanks to the generosity of our community members and businesses, as well as a grant by the Virgin Islands Lottery that we are all able to enjoy this celebration of the good will and kindness in Love City,” said Carmichael-Bowers. “These ‘One Love’ events have been made possible in part through the Mid Atlantic Folk and Traditional Arts — Community Projects program of Mid Atlantic Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.”
