A St. Croix minor was shot three times by a man with a rifle on Sept. 27 while running away from dogs that were chasing him and his friends, the V.I. Police Department reported.
At approximately 7:51 p.m., 911 received an alert from ShotSpotter indicating that several gunshots had been fired in the Williams Delight area of St. Croix. Responding officers spoke with a 13-year-old who reported that while he and two friends were walking, they were chased by dogs. They threw stones at the dogs and started running when they heard gunshots. The victim stated that he fell to the ground and saw a male, whom he identified as “Andre,” running with a rifle in both hands, according to the police report.
The minor sustained gunshot wounds to the hip, buttocks, and leg. He was transported to the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital, where he was immediately admitted for surgery, the police report stated.
Contact was made with Andre Browne, 43, at his home, he was advised of his Miranda Rights and placed under arrest and charged with attempted murder. Bail was set at
$100,000. Browne could not post bail and was transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing, the report stated.
