Charlise Morris Wins Bronze at NACAC U13/U15 in Dominican Republic

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) sent a team of young athletes to the Dominican Republic to participate in the North American Central American and Caribbean Under 13 and U15 Championships on July 15 and 16. There were 25 countries in attendance, which was the most countries of the past four occurrences of the reorganization of these games.

The U13 athletes Charlise Morris and Faith Eatmon participated in the pentathlon, which consists of five events: the 60 meter, high jump, ball throw, long jump and 800m. The U15 athletes Aminah Prasad, Safiyah Prasad, Steve N. Baptiste and Juvante Hurst will compete in the heptathlon which consists of 7 events: the 80 meter, long jump, shot put, 60-meter hurdles (girls) / 80-meter hurdles (boys), high jump, ball throw, and 1000 meter (girls) / 1200 meters (boys). Top eight places were awarded medals and the Virgin Islands once again had at least one athlete in the top eight position.

Charlise Morris won a bronze medal in the high jump with a jump of 1.40 meters; she received a 7th place medal in the 800 meter with a 2:42.51 and an 8th place medal in the 60 meters with a time of 8.48 seconds. Charliseโ€™s overall score of 2544 for the five events placed her 7th in the individual standing.

Other exceptional performances came from Safiya Prasad who was 10th in the 1000-meter run and 12th in 60m hurdles. Faith Eatmon was 12th in the 800m. Congratulations to the athletes who represented the Virgin Islands. Full results can be found at the VI Track and Field website.

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation will be represented in the North American Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) U18/U23 Championships in Costa Rica from July 21 – 23, the Pan American (PANAM) Games U20 in Puerto Rico on Aug. 4 – 6, and the World Championships in Hungary on Aug. 19 – 27.
