HIV care organizations of St. Croix are creating a World AIDS Day event that will begin with a march honoring those lost to the AIDS crisis. The march will start at the Frederiksted Post Office and end with a time of remembrance at Verne I. Richards Veterans Memorial Park. Thereafter, the crowd is invited to attend the continuation activities at the nearby Dorsch Amphitheatre for the “Red Couch Convo,” a one-of-a-kind examination of the daily activities and thoughts of people who are on the forefront of the battle to end HIV. Host Chalana Brown of WTJX’s “Up Next” will interview guests who will share their views from the perspectives of HIV care medical providers, persons living with HIV and HIV advocates. Frederiksted Health Care Inc., the Department of Health, the Village’s Progressive Lifestyles program, St. Croix Pride Inc., the Women’s Coalition, St. Croix Educational Complex, Central High School, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, One L.U.V. Inc. and several other community members and advocates have created a great opportunity for community discussion. Intermission performances by local dancers, spoken word artists and musicians will underline the strides the community has made and the harsh road it is yet to walk.
