Police Investigate Weekend Crimes

Police on St. Thomas are investigating two shootings and a stabbing that occurred during the weekend, according to the V.I. Police Department, incidents that were not fatal and not related.

At about 1:30 p.m. Saturday officers were dispatched to the Schneider Regional Medical Center to investigate a gunshot victim. The 21-year-old male victim told police he had been traveling to visit a friend at Paul M. Person’s Garden housing community, when he was approached near building 27 by two men wearing black masks over their faces.

According to the report, one suspect shouted at him to freeze, and that the same time a shot was fired.

The victim realized that he had been shot in his right thigh and ran from the area. He was taken by private vehicle to the hospital for treatment, and later released.

Police spoke to another gunshot victim Monday morning at the hospital. The 25-year-old victim told police he was in Havensight walking home to Estate Thomas when he heard at least three shots. He realized he was shot in his left leg. The victim said he did not know how he was shot and did not see anyone or anything in the area. He said he was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle but could not recall whose vehicle it was.

Police also are investigating the circumstances surrounding an injured man, clad only in colorful boxer shorts, found lying on a sidewalk on Veterans Drive. The man appeared to have been stabbed in the left side of his waist. When the ambulance arrived the victim refused medical treatment.

The victim also did not give any additional information to police at that time.

These three cases will be followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
