Dear Source
I have lived on St. Thomas for almost 18 years and never written a Letter to the Editor, despite many temptations. However, I recently experienced and event that cries out to be shared with the community. I recently was diagnosed with the need for bilateral total knee replacements. I had the choice of staying here, Puerto Rico or anywhere in the USA.
We have all heard of the RLS Hospital’s reputation. But my desire to rehab at home with as little disruption to my life, my family’s life and work convinced me to stay at home. Doing so meant voluntarily checking into the RLS Hospital.
The result was a 100% professional job as good as I could have hoped for anywhere. The care and attention I received was overwhelmingly positive. Dr. Jeff Chase and his team, the surgical staff, the 4th floor nursing station and Dr. Jerry Smith’s Therapy Works were fantastic and continue to be as I recover and rehab. In particular, I can’t help but mention my nurses, Jennifer King and Martina Tavernier, who were exceptional. There are many other individuals, but it’s hard to name everyone and don’t want to leave anyone out.
Everyone was kind and considerate and completely devoted to professional care. Frankly, their attitude and manner assisted in my recovery and continues to do so.
I have heard all the stories we all have. The reputation is one thing; the reality, at least for me, was far different. I am very thankful to everyone. Sincerely,
Steven L. Baker
