A pitching duel developed in Sunday’s Elmo Plaskett Senior League Baseball‘s late game on Sunday between Sergio Santiago of the Reds and Jarbo Joseph of the Angels that went down to the wire. In the end, it was Santiago and the Reds pulling out a hard fought, 3-2, victory.
After both teams failed to score in the first inning, the Angels drew first blood in the top of the second, plating one run on Gyasi Chiverton’s RBI single to take the early 1-0 lead.
The score would stay that way until a pass ball in the bottom of the third allowed the Reds to knot the game at one.
Leonardo Castillo’s RBI single gave the lead back to the Angels in the top of the third at 2-1, and Santiago was able to hold the Reds scoreless over the next two innings.
The Reds, however, began their come back in the bottom of the fifth when they rallied for two runs that turned out to be the game winners. They scored on an RBI single by Rashawn Benjamin and an Angel miscue to take the lead for good at 3-2.
With allotted time expired, the game was called after the Angels were retired in order in the top of the sixth.
Santiago picked up the win on the hill for the Reds, while Joseph in a game effort got the loss. Top batters for the Reds were Victor Osario, 1 for 2; and Benjamin, 1 for 2 with an RBI. For the Angels Castillo and Chiverton were both, 1 for 1, with one RBI.
