BET Network Business Report Showcases USVI

The U.S. Virgin Islands was featured in a lifestyle segment on Black Enterprise TV’s “Business Report," which aired in Philadelphia, Oct. 1, and is now available for viewing online.

In an on-camera interview taped earlier this fall at the 18th annual Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge in Miami, Fla., Deputy Commissioner of Tourism Chantal Figueroa spoke with BET host Sonia Alleyne about just what the USVI has to offer her viewers.

The show, which featured multiple “weekend getaway hot-spots” during the Executive Style segment, aired on CBS’s KYW affiliate station in Philadelphia on Oct. 1, to an audience of almost 10,000 viewers. The segment can now be viewed on Black Enterprise TV’s web portal, which receives an average of more than 61,000 unique monthly visitors (See related links).

“A 2010 research report confirmed the long-time marketing assumption that African American travelers choose vacation destinations based on availability of cultural sites tied to their history,” said Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty in a statement issued Thursday.

“The African American market is especially important to the USVI because our history is so closely intertwined. We share many cultural similarities but also offer new, distinctly ‘West Indian’ experiences for African American couples, families and other groups to enjoy," Nicholson-Doty added.
