Keeping up with its recent promotional efforts to connect more with the community, the V.I. Lottery will be giving local residents the chance to show off how much they love their pets this February.
“This Valentine’s Day, we wanted to celebrate the love of man’s best friend, whether that friend is a dog, cat, mongoose, horse, pig, snake, fish or bird," said V.I. Lottery official A.C. Burgess in a press release. "The owner of each pet selected will receive $20."
The Valentine’s Day "Love Your Pet" ticket will go on sale Feb. 3. Full sheets cost $30. The grand prize is $175,000 with a total of $330,000 in prizes available. The lottery drawing will be held Feb. 17, 2011.
Residents can enter by filling out an online form at the lottery’s website and uploading a photo of their pet. The deadline to enter is midnight Jan. 10. For photo contest rules, click here.
Posters announcing the contest can be found at the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center, St. John Animal Care Center and St. Thomas Humane Society, along with most veterinarians, groomers and pet supply retailers.
The Lottery’s website and Facebook page will feature the photos of all pets submitted, and members of the public are able to vote for their favorite photos.
The top 20 pets will be featured on the tickets. The Facebook page will also provide updates on the contest and feature photos of the winners.
Tickets are available at dealers outside any V.I. Lottery office, Anna’s Market, MoneyGram locations, Udder Delight, Carabana in downtown Charlotte Amalie and Plaza Extra on St Thomas.
