St. Croix detectives arrested 28-year-old Joseph G. Yarwood of Estate Frangipani in a Friday incident in which he allegedly assaulted a woman and her children and threatened them with a handgun.
Yarwood is charged with aggravated assault and battery/domestic violence, carrying or using a dangerous weapon, and three counts of child abuse, among other charges.
According to police, Yarwood became enraged with his girlfriend and verbally abused her, broke several items inside the home, pointed a gun at the girlfriend’s head, strangled her and threatened to kill her and her children.
Yarwood also punched the girfriend’s minor son in his face. Four minor children were present in the home when the incident occurred.
In addition to the charges already mentioned, Yarwood was also charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree assault, disturbance of the peace/threats, brandishing, exhibiting or using a dangerous weapon and destruction of property.
Yarwood was held without bail because of the domestic violence charges.
