St. Croix District will participate in the observance of National School Bus Safety Week, Oct. 19-23. This year’s theme for observance is "Avoid Harm, Obey the Stop Arm."
St. Croix District Superintendent Gary Molloy reminds everyone, particularly the motoring public, to follow all rules and regulations when approaching a stopped school bus. “When you see a school bus on the road, be prepared to stop quickly. Flashing yellow lights are your first warning. Flashing red lights means students will be getting on or off the bus. You should stop immediately even if you are on the opposite side of the road. If you break the law and injure or fatally wound a child as a result of impatience, they will be dire consequences facing, you, the motorist. Pay attention and watch for school buses when they stop,” Molloy said.
Additionally, the superintendent takes this opportunity to remind parents to monitor their children’s behavior, particularly during this month of October — the Halloween season. “Parents, urge your children to refrain from engaging in illegal acts and hostility directed at school buses, bus personnel and students, falsely perceived as celebrating Halloween. Incidences on or targeted at school buses could result in the interruption of bus service to the problematic areas as has occurred in the past," he said.
