Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis returned to the Virgin Islands this week after a successful summer meeting of the National Lieutenant Governors’ Association in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was re-elected to serve on the executive committee as the Democratic leader of the East-Region-at-Large. Lt. Gov. Francis said he was humbled that his counterparts from across the nation reappointed him to the influential post.
“I am certainly honored and delighted that my colleagues have given me their vote of confidence and affirmed their support of my service as a national leader and representative of this bi-partisan group,” Francis said. “I look forward to sharing my ideas and ensuring that the Virgin Islands is always represented on the national level.”
In addition, he co-sponsored several resolutions including one honoring American for the Arts on the occasion of their 50th Anniversary, another concurring with Federal Government Allocation for Robust Broadband Internet Awareness, Adoption and Use Programs and a resolution in support of the Teach for America Program. During the three-day conference, he was able to participate in a number of discussions evaluating the workforce reinvestment act, best practices in pre-K education and in developing STEM Education. He also took part in panels discussion transportation, housing, environmental police and health care reform.
“The meeting was a success and an ideal way for lieutenant governors to meet and come up with solutions to problems affection all Americans, including us here in the territory,” Lt. Gov. Francis said.
