With the St. John Youth Committee’s Positive Summit and Rally for Peace and Change fast approaching on Aug. 14, the committee is holding a logo contest with a $100 prize.
Friday is the deadline for local kids to get creative. Submissions should be dropped off at Connections in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay.
"We’re looking for drawings, sketches, graphic designs," committee vice chairman Hadiya Sewer said Tuesday.
The logo should emphasize love, peace, unity, happiness, St. John, and "anything that embodies the spirit of the committee," Sewer said.
The logos must not exceed six by six inches. The winner will be notified by Monday.
There is no age limit for those who wish to enter, and Sewer said that anyone who says he or she is a St. John youth qualifies.
The judges are the five kids and two adults on the Youth Committee, Sewer said.
The logo will serve as the Youth Committee’s brand, Sewer said, and will be used on its letterhead, banners and flyers.
The logo will also go on sponsorship banners for the summit. Sewer said that as soon as the paperwork is printed, Youth Committee members will visit St. John businesses to ask them to sponsor a banner.
The summit will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 14 at the V.I. National Park ballfield. Sewer said that it includes a panel discussion with St. John youths as well as community leaders participating.
