May 27, 2009 — A 49-year-old St. Thomas man was killed in his Frydenhoj home Wednesday night by what police are describing as a lone gunman.
Responding to a call of shots being fired in the area around 6:30 p.m., police arrived at the scene and found that the victim, whose name has not yet been released by police, was unresponsive and had no vital signs. Medical personnel later pronounced him dead, according to Police spokeswoman Melody Rames.
After canvassing the area, police learned that the gunman somehow entered the home and opened fire, killing the man but leaving three children that were also in the house unharmed. Witnesses said later that the shooter left the scene carrying a "long gun," according to a Police Department press release.
An investigation into the homicide is ongoing, with police detectives and forensics technicians continuing to canvass the area, collect evidence and interview witnesses late Wednesday night.
