May 2, 2007 – Due to the recent rain showers on St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands Fire Service is lifting the ban on burning that went into effect on Feb. 14. Effective Wednesday, May 2, burning permits will be issued and burning will be allowed on the island of St. Thomas, according to a press release from the V.I. Fire Service.
The ban will remain in effect for the island of St. John due to the dry vegetation that still exists. Conditions on St. John will continue to be monitored and the status on burning will be adjusted accordingly.
Persons with burning permits on St. Thomas that were affected by the ban, can bring their permits to the administrative offices located at No. 15 Crown Bay Fill to be credited time.
