DeJongh Names New Assistant Public Works Commissioner

June 28, 2007 — Gov. John deJongh Jr. has appointed native Crucian Roberto Cintron as assistant public works commissioner, effective July 1, according to a Government House news release. Cintron will be based on St. Croix.
“Roberto Cintron is another example of a young Virgin Islander who has pursued a higher education and has returned home to serve his community," deJongh said. "I expect him to exhibit his skills and experience at the Public Works Department as, together with Commissioner Darryl Smalls, they move that agency towards a new era of public service."
Cintron, 28, attended elementary and junior high school on St. Croix and holds a civil-engineering degree from the University of Florida, according to the release. He returned to the territory in 2006 as the district engineer for PWD, where he acted as the engineering arm for the V.I. government. His responsibilities included the review and inspection of all government building contracts; design, construction and pavement of local roads; issuance of driveway and excavation permits; and the design and construction of local engineering projects.
Before returning to the territory, Cintron worked in the private sector in Florida, where positions he held included project engineer, project manager and later city engineer for one of his company’s largest clients, the city of Deltona. In that capacity, Cintron was responsible for the review of all development within the city.
Cintron is the son of Clemente and Noemi Cintron of St. Croix.
