UVI Extends Spring Semester Drop/Add Period Through Jan. 22
The UVI Enrollment Office has extended the University's drop/add period for the 2007 Spring Semester through Monday, Jan. 22.

UVI Troupe Wins Second Place in Festival 2007 Adult's Parade

Cooks, Volunteers Sought for Afternoon of the Green
The University of the Virgin Islands is recruiting dishes for Afternoon on the Green — UVIs annual food, fun and family event scheduled for noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, on the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on the St. Thomas campus. If you can prepare anything to eat – food, drinks or deserts – and are interested it having it sampled by members of the community sign up today. Dishes can be entered for competition upon the cook's request. This year's theme is "It's Celebration Time: Afternoon on the Green has Officially Turned 18!"
General volunteers, specifically those with valid health cards, are also being sought. If your are ready to share your family's favorite dish or let the community sample that new recipe you just perfected, or if you just want to help out please call the Institutional Advancement Office at 693-1040.

Boston University Early Medical School Program Presentation Set Jan. 19 at UVI
Virgin Islands high school students with interests in medical school careers are invited to attend a lecture by Dr. Jonathan Woodson, MD, associate dean for students and minority affairs at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Woodson will discuss BU's Early Medical School Selection Program from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19. The lecture will take place in Chase Auditorium (B-110) on UVI's St. Thomas campus, with a video conference link to the Theatre (EC-401) on the St. Croix campus. UVI's Rotaract Club to Meet on Jan. 19
The Rotaract Club of UVI will conduct its first general meeting for members at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19. The meeting will be held in UVI's Chase Auditorium (B-110). Members are encouraged to bring along a friend. For more information, contact Diana Joshua at 771-2096.

V.I. Historians Plan Annual Conference Jan. 20 on UVI's St. Croix Campus
The UVI community is invited to the 19th Annual Conference of the Society of Virgin Islands Historians scheduled from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, in the Cafetorium on the St. Croix campus. The meeting's theme will be "Health and History in the Virgin Islands." Papers will be presented by Dr. Cora Christian – on public health, Dr. Niklas Jensen – on health issues, Dr. Robert Nicholls – on medicinal tree products, and Dr. Elizabeth Rezende on midwifery. Books on Virgin Islands and Caribbean history and culture will be available for purchase. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Hatchett Named St. Thomas Campus Health Services Center Supervisor
Ronda Hatchett, a 2002 UVI nursing graduate, has joined the staff of Student Affairs as the Health Services Center Supervisor on the St Thomas campus. Hatchett has worked for two years in the intensive care unit at the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center and for a year and one-half at the Department of Health. She also worked at the Seaview Health Care Services in 1999, while pursing her studies at UVI. Hatchett's office is in the Health Services Building, located across from the St. Thomas Campus Bookstore. Her phone number is 693-1124.

New Health Service Hours Announced for St. Thomas Campus
New hours have been announced for the Health Services Center on UVI's St. Thomas campus.
A nurse is available on the following schedule:
Mondays – Fridays: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturdays: 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
A doctor is available each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 1 p.m.
Emergencies occurring when the office is closed should be referred to the UVI Security Office at 693-1530.
Free HIV Testing for UVI Students, Faculty and Staff on St. Thomas Campus
Free HIV testing, with confidential results available in 60 minutes, is now available to students, faculty and staff on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Testing will be offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the UVI Health Services Building. For more information, contact HOPE INC. at 777-1611.
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Opens National Graduate Scholarship Competition
The University of the Virgin Islands is seeking applications from outstanding students or recent graduates for nomination as candidates for graduate scholarships to be awarded by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. In June, the foundation will award approximately 30 scholarships of up to $50,000 per year for up to six years. As an accredited U.S. institution, UVI can nominate up to two students for the competition. The program is designed for students with financial need beginning their first graduate or professional degree program in the fall of 2007. The UVI deadline for submission of applications is Thursday, Feb. 15. Pilot Shuttle Program Continues on St. Thomas Campus
A two-week (Jan. 16-19 and Jan. 22-26), pilot shuttle program is under way on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Shuttle services – using a safari bus marked with a "UVI Shuttle" sign – is being provided from the lower campus to the upper campus and back at 15 to 20 minute intervals from 9 a.m to 8:30 p.m. Service is for students with valid UVI identification cards and for UVI faculty and staff. The pilot program is designed to gauge the demand for an on-going service. It will allow the use of underutilized parking lots on the lower campus. The preliminary route is as follows: Beginning at the CA Building bus stop, with stops at the main (upper campus) entrance, Security, East Hall entrance, Bookstore parking lot entrance, and in front of Nursing and Science buildings. The shuttle will return via the same stops. Based on demand, the upper campus loop may be expanded to include stops to the east campus area (Human Resources, Accounting, CELL, Purchasing/Physical Plant).

UVI Little Theatre Schedules New Auditions for Spring Production
A second round of auditions for the spring production of "Caribbean Babylon" at UVI's Little Theatre has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 31, and Thursday, Feb. 1. Both sessions will begin at 7:30 pm. in the Little Theatre – located on the second floor of the Classroom Administration Building on the St. Thomas campus. The play, written by St. Thomas native Gus Edwards, is set on St. Thomas in the 1950s, not long after large-scale tourism became a major economic and cultural force. Fourteen actors are needed, including two white actors (one male and one female) and 12 black actors ( seven males and five females). Miss UVI Ambassadorial Competition Scheduled for March 24 at the Reichhold
The Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of the Virgin Islands has scheduled the 2007 Miss UVI Ambassadorial Competition for Saturday, March 24, at the
Reichhold Center for the Arts on St. Thomas. Five young ladies from the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses are expected to participate. The competition, which is the SGA's 45th UVI anniversary celebration event, has the theme "Women of Distinction – Poised for Greatness." UVI faculty, staff and students interested in helping to plan the competition should contact Carolyn Wattley, SGA Queen's Committee advisor, at 693-1120. Committee meetings are held each Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Activities conference room on the St. Thomas campus.
Time Management Seminar Offered Jan. 24 on St. Thomas
A seminar titled "Time Management Tips for 2007" will be offered by the UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the SBDC Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. The seminar is designed for business owners, potential business owners, students and employees. Frederick Handleman, Esq., will be the presenter. Part of the SBDC's Winter Seminar Specials series, the seminar is free to individuals who pre-register. There is a $20 fee at the door. To pre-register, call 776-3206. SBA Loan, HUBZone and Procurement Seminar Set Feb. 1 on St. John
A seminar titled "SBA Loan, HUBZone and Procurement Programs" will be presented on St. John at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, as part of the Winter Seminar Specials series offered by UVI's Small Business Development Center. The session will take place in the Legislature Building in Cruz Bay. Presenter Carl Christensen, deputy officer of the Virgin Islands office of the Small Business Administration (SBA), will discuss SBA loan programs and the HUBZones program which encourages economic development in historically underutilized business zones.
