The Cyril E. King Airport was closed for 42 minutes Saturday afternoon after a bomb threat was called into the Bohlke International Airways terminal.
A receptionist at Bohlke told police authorities that the caller said a bomb had been placed in the airport’s main terminal.
Police units, including the bomb squad response team and airport firefighters, were dispatched to the main terminal to search the buildilng.
Traffic in and out of the airport was closed while the search continued. The investigators found nothing and declared the airport safe to reopen at 5:42 p.m.
No one was injured during the airport evacuation process, officials reported to the Source Saturday evening.
Virgin Islands Port Authority Executive Director Gordon A. Finch termed the bomb threat, "a serious matter" and expressed hope that the law enforcement agencies investigating the hoax will "expose the person behind the call." He confirmed reports that no one was injured during the incident which he also characterized as "unfortunate." Flights into St. Thomas were delayed until the airport was declared safe to reopen.
