Land scraping at a home site on Hull Bay Road has kicked up more than dust. A crew has been working for about two weeks, trimming down the hillside at 17-2 St. Peter Mountain/Hull Bay Road, just east and across the street from Bryan's New Bar and Restaurant, and the activity has provoked a good deal of curiosity among St. Thomas North Side residents.
Salvador Bryan, owner of the property, could not be reached Thursday for comment.
According to staff at the Department of Planning and Natural Resources' earth-change permitting section, the permit for the work allows Bryan to build a retaining wall and put in a new driveway. It does not allow for building a new structure on the site.
DPNR also has allowed Bryan to use the excess fill he is taking from the hillside to expand the parking area on his brother's residential property across the street. He is required to put in a "siltation fence" or silt screen to hold back soil and prevent runoff.
