The Charlotte Amalie High School Lady Chicken Hawks were able to go toe-to-toe with H.D. Woodson High School until the final minutes Saturday afternoon before falling, 66-46, in a Washington, D.C., contest.
The Lady Hawks were very much in the game for the first three quarters. However, with the score tied halfway through the fourth quarter, H.D. Woodson got a turnover that ignited an eight-point swing. "This was the turning point of the game." noted Lady Hawks head coach Myron Corbett. H.D Woodson nailed two three-pointers and sank two free throws during the run.
Rena Stephens led the Lady Hawks with 17 points.
"It was tough, but a learning experience," Corbett stated, referring to his younger players, Jakeema Richards, Janelle Saruaw and Ashyla Gordon.
Corbett said he hopes to carry his 2001-2002 team on another trip for Christmas.
