May 21, 2002 – Department of Education finished what it started Monday night, trouncing Law and Order, 19-5, for a fourth straight win and the title in the Housing Parks and Recreation Department's St. Thomas Co-ed Slowpitch League championships at Joseph Aubain Ballpark.
In the final game, Education had its most disappointing first inning of the best-of-seven series, scoring just three runs. Law and Order (Police Department and U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service) got one run in the bottom of the inning. Education answered with one run in the top of the second and another three in the top of the third, meanwhile keeping Law and Order scoreless, to take a 7-1 lead. In those three innings Education left eight runners stranded on base.
Law and Order then held Education scoreless for the next three innings, at the same time scoring three runs to bring the score to 7-4.
In the top of the seventh inning, Education erupted for 12 runs to end its scoring drought and any hopes that Law and Order had of winning the game. A total of 16 batters came to the plate in that inning, with Gail Christopher hitting a three-run double to cap the scoring.
Franklin Brathwaite, who pitched and won all four games for Education, shared the series Most Valuable Player award with his daughter Chanika Brathwaite.
Education had a total of 24 hits and committed six errors in the game. Pedrito led in offense with four hits in five at bats. Brathwaite, Michael Bute and George Deller all had three hits in five trips to the plate.
Law and Order had five hits and also committed six errors. Walter Freeman got the loss. Simon Venzen hit two for three to lead Law and Order offensively.
