Jan. 10, 2003 – The "Pardon Our Dust" signs will soon go up on Moravian Highway, the section of Route 30 that runs through Nisky connecting Cyril E. King Airport and downtown, as the Water and Power Authority extends potable water lines to the Contant Knolls area.
The project will allow businesses, homes and the Contant Knolls public housing community to receive water in the area uphill from Nisky near The Old Mill.
WAPA spokeswoman Patricia Blake Simmonds said on Friday that an announcement will be sent out at a later date advising people in the area how to sign up for potable water.
She said the contractor for the work, Tip Top Construction, is now making "saw cuts" in the highway, which aren't causing much in the way of traffic problems. Once Tip Top receives an earth change permit from the Planning and Natural Resources Department, she said, it will begin digging trenches to lay pipes.
Blake Simmonds said WAPA and Tip Top are still working on how they will deal with traffic during construction, but plans include rerouting and the use of flag signalers and traffic-control directions.
The project should be finished by early May, she said. It is being funded with a $471,476 Community Development Block Grant.
