TIP LEADS POLICE TO LOOT FROM HIGH SCHOOL

May 2, 2003 – Items worth about $20,000 that were stolen from St. Croix Educational Complex in recent months have been recovered, Police Commissioner-designate Elton Lewis announced Friday.
Electronic equipment including hand-held radios and food items were among the things taken in several burglaries of the school in the last few months, most recently on Thursday, a release stated.
Lewis said Sgt. Victor Mercado and Officer Haraldo Richards, based on information provided from the community, "were able to locate many of the items" and retrieve them in a nearby residential area.
"It appears that the perpetrators were storing the items in the ceiling of a home," the release said. Police have not determined the motive and the method of the break-ins, it said, and the matter remains under investigation.
